POKE IN PITTSBURGH

I have always wanted to try a poke bowl (traditionally a Hawaiian raw fish “salad”) and was scrolling through Instagram and found the perfect place to go. Kahuna is a cute little lunch spot nestled in East Liberty with build your own poke bowls.

I chose to get a “signature” bowl because I didn’t want to mess it up and make something weird. I ordered the Spicy Tuna bowl (tuna, sichuan mayo, panko, green onion, furikake, masago, and jalapeño). I was expecting diced raw tuna, but the “tuna salad” was a pleasant surprise. It was so good and had the perfect amount of spice.

I also tried Ruza rosé in a can (mainly because I thought the can was cute) and it was very good. A little bit drier than I usually like but it complimented my bowl well and I can see myself drinking this by the pool in the summer. I definitely want to return to Kahuna soon and maybe get a little bit out of my comfort zone and try something different. I also will definitely be checking out their sister restaurants, Muddy Waters and Bird on the Run.
